Consequent upon approval by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh the Manarat International University (MIU) has added a new discipline of Journalism and Media Studies in its academic program and opened the Department of Journalism and Media Studies from Spring Semester 2013.
MIU’s Department of Journalism and Media Studies; being a Centre of Academic, Moral and Ethical Excellence in learning and teaching of Journalism and Media Studies; is aimed to impart theoretical, practical and hands-on knowledge in the discipline, so as to build a band of conscious, committed, competitive, courageous and compassionate media professionals and nation builders.
The Bachelor of Journalism and Media Studies program at MIU provides an in-depth education, training and research opportunity to students willing and able to undertake the rigors of both academic and industrial learning in the profession of Journalism and Media.
The Department of Journalism and Media Studies at MIU is under the School of Arts and Humanities. At the moment it runs a 4-year Bachelor of Journalism and Media Studies. MIU plans to introduce Masters of Journalism and Media Studies and One Year Post-Graduate Diploma in Journalism and Media Studies very soon.
MIU Bachelor of Journalism and Media Studies program comprises 24 General Education (GED) courses and 111 departmental courses. GED courses are mandatory. Under the departmental requirements, students take departmental core, concentration, and elective courses for completing total required 135 credits for graduation.
The program is being administered by internationally educated and experienced faculty, and offers a holistic view of the global, regional and local media perspective with rich content and practical applicability in collaboration with locally available media houses/industries. The curriculum is designed to provide students solid academic grounding and industrial learning placement with the ability to perform under stress and deadlines.
The Academic year consists of three semesters: Spring, Summer, and Fall. The Spring starts in January and ends in April. The Summer semester commences in May and ends in August. The duration of Fall Semester is from September to December.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) and Ministry of Education, Government of Bangladesh, approve the MIU degree programs. MIU has official collaboration, and student and faculty exchange arrangement with California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB), USA. Negotiations for academic collaboration in the discipline of Media Studies, Mass Communication, Journalism with other internationally reputed universities are in progress.

The university allows admission of students one month ahead of each Semester- Spring, Summer, and Fall following the Admission Announcements published in the leading Daily Newspapers of the country.
